The voice ethics, plainly stated.
- Default: a curated narrator voice from our library — chosen to fit the ancestor.
- Opt-in only: we never clone a voice without explicit written consent and a recording you provide.
- Disclosure: every animated portrait in the final book is labeled with the voice profile used.
- Reversibility: you can withdraw consent at any time; we delete the model and replace the narration.
Portrait questions
- Only if you choose voice cloning and provide a real recording you own. By default we use a curated narrator voice — chosen to fit the ancestor's era and personality. Both options sound warm and respectful; cloning sounds closer to the person, but is never the default.
- No. The narrator voice library is the standard path and works beautifully for ancestors who have no surviving recordings. You only provide audio if you choose to clone.
- In your printed book, every animated-portrait QR code is accompanied by a small note indicating whether the voice is a curated narrator or a cloned recording. The digital archive carries the same disclosure.
- Yes. If you withdraw consent, we delete the voice model and the associated portrait narration, and we replace it with a narrator-voice version at no cost.
- $249 – $399 per ancestor, depending on the complexity of restoration and script. Family Chronicle subscribers receive a discount on additional portraits.
